Moving In The Winter

Tips for Moving In The Winter

Moving in the winter can be a challenge, you have to deal with unpredictable weather and cold temperatures. It’s helpful to make sure you’re prepared for whatever might happen. Moving in the winter is sometimes necessary and can’t be avoided. But that’s fine and I’m here to help with some tips to help the day go a little more smoothly.

Confirm All Details

It’s always best to make sure all details are confirmed with your moving company ahead of time. Because you might run into unexpected weather changes or there might be a lot of snow where you are. You might need extra time with your moving company. But the one nice thing about moving during the off season is that you’ll have lots of dates to choose from. However, it’s a good idea to keep your eye on the weather.

Keep Checking the Weather

In Canada we know that the winter can sometimes be difficult and unpredictable. That doesn’t have to stop you from moving. Watch for the weather and if it changes, call your movers and make sure they are aware. Check the weather conditions everyday the week leading up to your move. Things will be ok, we’re Canadians and we’re tough when it comes to the winter weather.

Protect Your Floors

Of course winter means wet boots and shoes and you don’t want to have people damaging your floors. A great way to protect them is to have floor mats at every entrance and to purchase some cheap plastic tarps and cover any floors you want to protect. It can get wet and you don’t want to have a mess, it might also be a good idea to have some towels on hand as well.

Packing Fragile Items and Electronics

When it’s cold outside it can be possibly damaging to fragile items and to electronics. When you leave electronics in a cold truck over night or in a car it will freeze. Once that item is brought back inside it will thaw and can cause water damage. To avoid that I recommend that you keep your electronics close and somewhere warm.

Same goes for an fragile items, since the cold makes them more fragile, they’re more likely to break. Keep that in mind when you’re packing and be aware of what you’re putting in the moving truck. That also goes for any extra warm clothing, you don’t want that to end of packed in a moving truck. Stay warm and dress for the weather.

Tip The Movers Well

We know how hard the movers work and how much harder they often have to work during the winter months. Dealing with mire difficult driving conditions and possible snow and ice to navigate through. Therefore it might be good to be a little extra generous when tipping. Show the movers how grateful you are for their hard work.

Interior Decorating Trends 2019

Decorating Trends

We all love to try and stay on trend when it comes to our homes. And so therefore it’s fun to read about what’s going to be popular and what is currently on trend. There’s so much going on for 2019 Decorating trends, so I decided to just choose 6 that I’m loving. I’m sure you’ll love them as well! Colours and textures are important for interior designs for 2019. Here’s what caught my eye and what I loved.

Blush Tones

Blush is the new natural and looks amazing with greys and naturals. There’s a lot you can do with blush whether it’s as an accent colour or the main event.

Cozy Beds

There really isn’t anything as wonderful as crawling into a cozy bed. And the cozy bed is a trend for 2019. With upholstery head and foot boards to ad extra coziness to your room.

Curvy Designs

That 1970s look is coming back in little pieces or in big ways depending on what your room needs. Rounded chairs are a chic way to bring this curvy style to your home. There are many pieces out there that have that 1970s feel.

Homemade Custom Pieces

What’s more unique than something made just for you? It’s nice to know that you have something in your home that no one else will have and that’s why this trend is going to be seen a lot in 2019. Lots of modern crafted pieces that tell a story about your home and your taste.

Antiques

Bringing back some history into your home is a beautiful way to decorate. Have a room with a modern design and then an antique is something special, if that’s your style. Check out your local antiques shops or online shops. It can be a fun Sunday afternoon activity, to explore different shops and see what unique pieces you can find.

Brass taps

They can seem like a piece of jewelry for your kitchen or bathrooms. They add a timelessness to a bathroom that has marble countertops, as well as giving the room an edgy industrial feel.

What Will you Try This Year?

There are so many more trends to discover for 2019, we only talked about 6 on a much larger list. And depending on what designer you speak with, they might have an entirely different list of trends. It can feel so good to change a room and make it more personal, what will you do to your home this year?
